CertainGoal's hierarchy is simple: projects → goals → tasks, with subtasks under a task and KPIs attached to a goal. This article explains how the pieces fit together and, importantly, how a goal's status and progress are worked out for you.
Every goal has a deadline, and every task can carry its own dates and a priority so you always know what to work on next. Overdue work is surfaced automatically so nothing quietly slips.
You don't set a goal's status by hand — it's derived from the goal's tasks and its deadline:
| Status | Meaning |
|---|---|
not_started | No tasks are underway yet. |
in_progress | At least one task is being worked on or completed. |
done | All of the goal's tasks are complete. |
overdue | The deadline has passed and the goal isn't done. |
A goal's numeric progress is the percentage of its non-discarded tasks that are done (0–100%). Complete tasks to move the bar; drop a task by marking it discarded and it no longer counts against you.
